Q: Why should I consider getting certified?

Q: What is the difference between the PMP and the CAPM?

A:The Project Management Professional (PMP) credential was designed for individuals with significant experience and maturity in the profession. Specifically, the attributes “to lead and direct” were identified as key elements of a more mature project management professional according to PMI’s most recent role delineation study. If you have been leading and directing projects for several years you should consider applying for the PMP exam.

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) credential was designed for the following types of individuals: Those who are relatively new to the project management profession, already working on project teams, and graduate or undergraduate students interested in the project management profession and the increased marketability a credential can offer them. The CAPM will build your creditability because it demonstrates that you have focused knowledge of key project management processes and terminology which will enhance your project management expertise and employment opportunities. In other words, you are given a sold theoretical framework and the proper paradigms for thinking about project management and the project management profession. Also, you are given a foothold in career progression that could otherwise take years to achieve.

Q: What is the PMBOK?

A: The PMBOK is the acronym for The Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge, (PMBOK) ®. It is also referred to as the “PMBOK ® Guide” and is in its 4th edition. Project Foundations, Inc™ instructors have mastered all drafts and editions of the PMBOK, including the newly released 4th edition.

The Guide to the PMBOK, 4th edition, is PMI’s de facto global standard and it describes the knowledge areas, processes, and practices applicable to most projects most of the time. Thus, both the CAPM & PMP certification exams use the PMBOK’s framework as a basis for exam questions.

Q: What should I bring to class?

A: ProjectFoundations, Inc™ will provide you with all of the materials you will need for classes. Therefore, all you need to do is get a good night’s sleep, show-up, and be prepared learn a lot and have fun along the way.

The following are NOT prerequisites to attending a ProjectFoundations, Inc™ Courses, however, they are things you may want to consider in regards to PMI and the certification exams:

Obtain PMI membership:
You are not required to become a member of PMI to apply for eligibility or take the CAPM or PMP Exam. However, it is highly recommended for the following reasons: The non-member fees for taking the certification exams exceed the combined cost of PMI membership and the exam fees for PMI members. Furthermore, as a new member, you will receive a FREE copy of the PMBOK (4th Edition). Recall that the certification exams are based on this book and it has been suggested that you consider reading this book prior to class.

Apply for exam eligibility:
Click here to complete your PMP exam eligibility. Follow the “Online Application” link, and use your membership login to begin the process. Once your application is accepted, you will receive your Letter of Eligibility. Currently, most students who submit their applications online report a wait time of less than one week.

Register for the CAPM or PMP exam:
During the course, you will be given a very objective measurement to determine when you are ready to take the exams. Thus, it is okay to delay exam registration until after you have completed the course.

However, if you would like to pre-register for the exam, realize that PMI has outsourced the facilitation of the PMP exam to Thomson Prometric, Inc. Once you have received an e-mail from PMI with your eligibility number, you can go to the Thomson Prometric website, www.prometric.com, and sign-up to sit for the exam at a testing center of your choice. ProjectFoundations, Inc™ strongly recommends that you schedule your exam 7 to 10 business days AFTER you have completed our course. This approach will give you sufficient time to complete ProjectFoundations, Inc™'s post-class study plan before taking your certification exam.

Q: Contact Hours or PDUs? Which do I need to sit for the PMP Exam?

A: Prior to taking the PMP exam one is require to have 35 contact hours (i.e., 35 hours of PM education). Many corporate training classes fulfill this requirement. If you have taken any previous courses in project management or any of the 9 Knowledge Areas of project management, you can use the course hours to fulfill this 35 hour contact hour requirement.

Project Foundations, Inc™’s Prep course does the following:

Provides you with 24 contact hours via our course.
Prepares you to sit for either PMI exam – PMP or CAPM exam.

PDUs are required AFTER a person earns the PMP certification. After you pass the PMP Exam you will be required to earn 60 PDUs, over a three year period, to maintain your PMP status. There are a variety of ways to earn PDUs including the attendance of PMI Chapter meetings.

We offer approved authorized PMI content and courseware. You will be provided with all materials, study guides, and practice tests for the class.

Refunds Because of high demand, many of our courses sell out, and students often register over six months in advance to insure that they have a seat. We allow students to cancel their registration any time before 45 business days prior to your originally scheduled course date. Within 45 -31 business days prior to the originally scheduled class, your registration fee is  50% refundable; however, you may still take advantage of our class change policy.  Any request for cancellation within 30 business days prior to your originally scheduled course date, your registration fee is non-refundable; however you may still take advantage of our class change policy.  Business days are M-F. Class Changes You may request to reschedule or change your class location or the date of your class free of charge as long as you do so more than fourteen calendar days prior to your scheduled class date. We will work with you to honor your request as space allows. If you need to reschedule within fourteen days of your class (that is, fourteen days or less), you will be charged $250. If you need to reschedule your class, please call our office at (888) 684-5264. Registration Your payment guarantees your registration. The only way to reserve a seat in a class is by making full payment. Course Location Changes ProjectFoundations reserves the right to change the location of a class as long as it is in the same general vicinity as the original location. No Show Policy Upon completing your registration, ProjectFoundations will reserve a seat for you in that class. Any rescheduling must be done in advance per our written policy above (see Class Changes). In the event that you do not show up for your scheduled class and you did not reschedule with ProjectFoundations by the previous business day, you will be charged $500 to transfer your registration to another class.
